1. Introduction

SecureAlert ("we", "our", "us") provides safety and incident reporting services through our web application and mobile app (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the Service. By using the Service you acknowledge that you accept the practices described in this policy.

2. Controller and contact

The data controller for the Service is SecureAlert. For questions about this policy or to exercise your privacy rights, contact us at: privacy@secureapphub.co.za. Replace this address with your official contact before publishing.

3. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly and information collected automatically:

  • Account and profile data: name, email address, password (hashed), tenant or organization identifiers and role information when you register or are invited to the platform.
  • Contact and communication data: messages you send to us, support requests, and transactional emails.
  • Location data: when you trigger an alert via the mobile app we collect location coordinates (GPS) if you grant the app permission. Location may be attached to incident reports and used to route assistance.
  • Push notification tokens: device push tokens (FCM) so we can send you notifications.
  • Device and usage data: device model, OS version, app version, IP address, browser user-agent, crash reports and analytics data to help maintain and improve the Service.
  • Payment and billing data: only if you purchase paid features; we do not store full card numbers — payment processing is handled by third-party providers.

4. How we use your information

  • Provide and operate the Service, including processing alerts and routing incident information to authorized responders.
  • Authenticate users and manage access, tenancy and roles.
  • Send notifications, alerts, and account messages (email, push).
  • Maintain, improve and develop new features, including usage analytics and crash diagnostics.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and the safety of our users.

5. Legal basis for processing (if applicable)

Where required by law (for example, the EU GDPR), we rely on one or more of the following legal bases to process personal data: consent, performance of a contract, legitimate interests (for security and product improvement), and compliance with legal obligations.

6. Sharing and disclosure

We may share personal information with:

  • Authorized responders and tenant administrators as necessary to respond to incidents and support the Service functionality.
  • Service providers that perform services on our behalf (e.g., hosting, email delivery, analytics, push notification providers like Firebase). These providers are only allowed to use data as necessary to perform their services.
  • Law enforcement or other parties when required by law or to protect life, safety or our legal rights.

7. Third-party services

We use third-party services such as Firebase (for push notifications), email providers, and cloud hosting. Those providers may collect and process data in accordance with their own privacy policies. Where we use Firebase Cloud Messaging, your device push token may be shared with Firebase. If you use the mobile app offline or with local development settings, the app may permit local (loopback) connections only for development purposes.

8. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information in our control. No transmission over the internet or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure; if you have concerns, contact us at the address above.

9. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary to provide the Service, fulfil legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary by data type (for example, location data tied to incident reports may be kept longer for operational or legal reasons).

10. International transfers

Data may be processed and stored in countries other than your country of residence. Where required by law we will take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

11. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights such as access, correction, deletion, objection, and data portability. To exercise these rights contact us at privacy@secureapphub.co.za.

12. Children

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or higher age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, contact us to have it removed.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated through the Service or by email where appropriate.

14. Contact
